The Rebirth Of Atlantis Part 1 - Hurricane Damage 1

The Rebirth Of Atlantis Part 1 - Hurricane Damage 1 Tube. Duration : 7.80 Mins.

In the Autumn of 2008, two major hurricanes swept mercilessly though the island of Cayman Brac - Gustav (Cat 2) and Paloma (Cat 5). Nine months later, the majority of the damage on land has been repaired and life is returning to normal. It is now time to attend to the damage these tempests wreaked on the underwater city of Atlantis. This video is the first in a series that will document the damage caused to Atlantis followed by videos of the arduous process of restoring the underwater mega artwork of Foots. Included will be the addition of 21 new sculptures to Atlantis. Video 1 ---------- My first visit to Atlantis since the storms. I spent 45 minutes in the city taking pictures and video. The effect of the storms is extensive with many sculptures knocked over (and partially buried in the sand) or moved, turned and/or left leaning. Some of this video is focused on the grand archway. This 15000 lb structure had it's 5000 lb top beam swept off. The good news is the incredible pace of growth on the sculptures (sponge, coral, etc...) and Foots will be doubly pleased to see that most of the residents of Atlantis (he's named them all) have returned and are living happily and harmoniously in and about the city. These include an Eagle Ray, Sting Ray, Queen Triggerfish and a Barracuda. I only saw one of the mated pair of French Angelfish, meandering around the overturned sundial - it's former home... not sure where it's mate is... Enjoy the videos. Mark

The Svp Digital Camera divulge

With the age of digital imaging, nearly every (shallow water) diver can be complicated with underwater photography. This characterize is of a true beginner camera outfit. The Chinese made, Svp Acqua digital outfit includes the camera theory and waterproof case for under 0. There are definite limitations and we'll cover them in this review.

Don't expect pro results with this camera, but you'll be surprisingly pleased with the versatility this limited ageement outfit provides. With all the features you'd expect to find in beloved brand 'point and shoot' cameras, this ageement theory will for real fit into your Bcd pocket. The specifications are listed after our characterize comments. Since the facility marketing brochure supplied these, we cannot confirm or dispute them.

Underwater Pictures

First of all, before using this camera... View the enclosed Dvd study manual in case, granted with the camera. There are many features and settings that you'll need to know before you get out on the water to use your camera system. We've used many separate brands and all seem to have some logical settings and some not-so-logical procedures. Like most 'point and shoot' cameras, there is a delay in the middle of pushing on the shutter and having the actual shutter operation. After you come to be well-known with the doing of the camera and the features you're ready for the underwater part.

Like any housing, you need to keep the housing clean and free from sand or grit that could originate a leak. Since the main seal is not for real an o'ring, I was very specific to clean the surfaces with a cotton tip (Qtip) and apply some o'ring grease to the covering as well as a thin film on the seal itself. The seal is sort of a wedge shape, so it should supply a good definite pressure seal. The clean part is more for all the limited control buttons that allow you to convert settings of the camera underwater. We'll get into the best settings we found when using the camera underwater.

When they say the housing is good to 15 meters or around 33 feet, they are not lying. Not that we were trying to flood the housing or anything, but at 60 feet the camera is not operational because the pressure is squeezing the controls and shuts the camera off. At 40 feet, you might get the camera to work, but don't count on changing the settings. At 35 feet the camera seems to work fine with all the features and settings operational. For many divers, this will be too limiting because most of your dives will be deeper than 35 feet. However, keep in mind that the red/yellow/orange end of the spectrum is filtered out beyond this depth too.

The camera and housing mixture are well matched and easy to operate. With the clear plastic housing, you can for real see the settings on the camera. Like most digital displays definite angles are more difficult to see, but with the proper shading and angle all is illustrated on the 2 inch screen. Even though you can convert the lens focal distance from wide angle to zoom, we kept the setting on wide angle for the dives while the whole process because of the water. Keep this in mind for all underwater photography; stay close to your field and use the widest angle possible for good results.

For the still shots, the camera was set for the strobe to fire with each shot. This uses up your batteries faster, but if the field is closer than 8 feet, you'll have good imaging and color. The best results were our macro shots where we set the camera for 'close-up' and used the flash. When using the movie mode, you'll be impressed with the sharpness of the images, but don't expect high potential audio. The housing must digest a lot of the sound as much of the underwater audio is muted. More than likely, you'll edit with some musical background anyway.

The color equilibrium was a limited off. We did convert the settings according to the instructions and the results were that the color equilibrium was a limited on the blue side for topside shots. This was not an issue for the underwater shots as the greenish tint of the water was eliminated. Most of the color equilibrium issues can be handled in the editing phase.

The claim of being 12.0 mega pixels is a limited deceiving because this is the 'hardware interpolation' not the 'image resolution' which is 5.0 mega pixels. All in all, we were not disappointed in the potential results of the good pictures. However, some of the shots showed camera shake even with the built in flash. This means that the shutter does adjust for the number of light, so it's prominent to squeeze the cameral and hold it as still as possible.

We used an 8 Gb Sd card because we thinkable, to take a lot of video and had ample memory space for two dives. We didn't use the in case, granted Usb cable because we use a card reader to our laptop and then back up the memory to a transported hard drive. The power source uses two triple A Alkaline Batteries, so it's not a question having new batteries for each dive. We didn't use the 'voice recorder' feature, but from our underwater video experience, it would not be recommended inside the underwater housing.

Now for the bottom line guidance on this gear: If you plan to take your underwater imaging seriously, save your money for a more comprehensive system. This could be the exquisite outfit for a sport diver that wants to share their diving palpate with their friends and family. For less than 0 (prices range from -100), not along with your Sd Memory card or batteries, it is a value. The Svp cameras are available at some dive shops and are directly marketed from any importers online. The next "point and shoot" underwater outfits, without an external strobe, will most likely cost over 0. So, if you are going on vacation and thinking about having your own digital camera outfit for shallow water, this is the answer. Of course, for around at most diving centers you could rent a camera with all included. Sometimes the choice is not easy, but you can know a lot more from person who has tested the Svp out. It is a great still and video camera outfit for around the water and underwater to about 35 feet.

Sibley IowaTornado strikes , 2010. Amazing pictures. Tube. Duration : 11.27 Mins.

This is real. The meteorologists kept saying get in the basement or take cover under something. Then the sirens went off. These are videos of the storm, the funnel cloud, and the aftermath, including pictures of the cars that took shelter under the freeway overpass, unsuccessfully. My sympathy goes out to the folks who lost their farms, their animals, and their whole livelihood. I also want to thank the Sibley Fire Dept, the Sheriff's dept, and all the volunteers from other towns and other fire departments who helped (and are now still helping) these people try to put their lives back together. Approx 12 farms, and a hog farm were totally destroyed or damaged badly, including some 1000 hogs that were killed in the Tornado. Many had to be shot, that were in pain. Thanks to Matt Hodapp for the amazing Funnel Cloud Picture shown at Little Rock., before it hit us. I received the picture a bit too late for the video, but it is shown on my home page featured video. www.youtube.com I am not used to making videos of sad events like this as you know, but this is an important reminder that we are puny, in the big picture, so we must heed the warnings of mother nature to survive. Sights In Bahamas That You Should Not Miss

Taking a vacation in the Bahamas is a dream come true for most people, probably because it does not come cheap. In fact, most can only afford the cruise and a three-day stay especially while peak months in the summer and other holidays. With the costs of cruises, airfare and hotel stays, you need to pack every second of your stay in Bahamas with activities that will make all those dollars worthwhile. Below are some of the sights that you should not leave out in your itinerary.

Visiting the old

Underwater Pictures

When you say Bahamas, you would immediately have this sweeping photograph of lush beaches and great sunsets but contrary to popular opinion, there are other sights in the Bahamas that you can visit besides its beach fronts. One of these sights is the Cloisters, a 14th century monastery built by William Randolph Hearst. This is literally one of the four cloisters that have been taken from France and rebuilt on Bahamas. A great sight to behold, the cloister features a white marble sculpture called Silence. This was sculpted by predominant Us artist Dick Reid. The Cloisters is literally a popular place where couples hold their weddings and anniversaries. It even has this gazebo that overlooks the Nassau Harbor that is literally great in pictures.

Another sight that you should not dare miss is the Balcony House located also in Nassau. This 18th century two-storey house is done in pink and has this literally great balcony, where it got its name. The house is considered the oldest wooden house in the area and has still kept its old feel and décor. In fact, the justify staircase, which is the focal point of the first floor, has been salvaged from a 19th century ship.

Other sights that you should not dare miss are The stepping back and the St. Augustine's Monastery in New Providence. These are great sights that you should comprise in your photo album. Another sight that you should visit is the Bacardi Distillery or the Commonwealth Brewery, also in the New Providence island

Fun with Nature

Visitors, especially those with children in tow, will love the Dolphin escapade in Lucaya. Children and visitors can hit the waters and interact with dolphins. Kids will certainly love this part of Bahamas.

Underwater fun can also be sense in Lucaya with the Unexso, which stands for Underwater Explorers Society. The place offers short courses on diving where you can search for the underwater gifts of the Bahamas, see corals and ship wrecks as well as interact with Dolphins in the open seas.

Another fun action with nature is a gad in the Lucayan National Park located in the Grand Bahama Island. Here you will find Indian burial caves that you will find literally fascinating.

Caves are also the featured sight in Staniel Cay where the Thunderball grotto can be found. Below this three-storey grotto, you can also find snorkeling and diving areas. Named after the James Bond movie, Thunderball, here you will find the place where they shot some of the boat scenes in the movie.

Play the Game

Tourists should also come and visit the Straw market in Nassau where you will find the island's two casinos, one in Cable Beach and the other at the Atlantis resort. Visitors are welcome to go there.

What is Gps (Geo) Photo Tagging?

The onset of the Global positioning system (Gps) technology was originally industrialized for forces use. It is used today as the foundation for some great innovative gadgets that we use on a daily basis. Gps is used in cellphones, automobile sailing systems and standalone Gps's used by joggers, hunters and people from all walks of life. Just in the last few years the technology is used to tag digital photos with Gps data containing strict geographic information.

Do you have boxes of photos that you can't remember where they were photographed, or the date and time? It can be a frustrating process trying to remember the information. Well there is a clarification to the problem, called geotagging. When you geotag photos, you are adding the latitude, longitude, and altitude data into the image file. It adds the data into something called the Exif (exchangeable image file format) area of the image file. Supplementary data such as time and date can also be included in the stored image file.

Underwater Pictures

Newer cameras have global positioning system (Gps) units built into them. When a photo is taken, it is automatically stamped with the camera's location. This recipe produces the most strict result. Because not all cameras come with a built-in geotagging device, there are a number of geotagging devices that are mountable on cameras that have a hotshoe. The devices normally come with software which adds the data after the photo download, to the file related with the photo image. Modern innovations add the Gps receiver right in the camera. This does two things, it provides Gps locations for photos and automatically adds the data into the Exif area which saves the frustration of trying to marry the data with the photo by using other processes.

There is a enterprise in Germany that has enhanced the acquisition of geodata by developing the Jobo photoGps will also includes the address (i.e. Country, city, street) and closest point of interest in the image file. This enables you to crusade for exact places, streets or points of interest without having to tag each photograph individually. And the best part is that the Jobo photoGps works in nearly all countries worldwide. For entrance to geotagging devices and cameras and Supplementary data take a look at placeforgps.com.
